Two weeks ago, Marcie from the Alliance Against Domestic Abuse (AADA) taught a two-week module focusing on abusive relationships and dating violence. She taught the students how to avoid abusive relationships, what the signs of an abusive relationship or partner are, and how to help a friend or yourself if in an abusive relationship. The month of February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, making this class very appropriate considering that high schoolers are susceptible to be in relationships with abusive qualities. This class can be very helpful to everyone because it is important to keep yourself and others safe within relationships.
Dating Violence is a vital subject to educate teens on, and many are unaware of the signs of an abusive partner, how to defend themselves from harm, and how to and find help and move on from an abusive relationship. AADA helps educate teens about these issues.
At HEA, the class participated in group discussions led by Marcie, they were able to voice their opinions on abusive relationships, learn the signs associated with them, and discuss the importance of a healthy and honest relationship.
